Satellite Receivers with integrated hard drives are slowly becoming more and more popular than your standard analog video recorder. Most video recordings are not kept for any length of time. Usually, films or documentaries are recorded just so that it could be watched at a more convenient time. And that alone would be a very simple job for the 9902 S. But it would be just as happy recording one program while at the same time playing back another program that was previously recorded. Up to 18 hours of programming can be recorded on its 40 GB drive and all of it in perfectly clear digital quality. And if a live program is being watched, it will help those that suddenly have to deal with their crying baby or those that absolutely must answer that ringing telephone. In these cases, the 9902 S starts recording with a simple push of a button. Later on, after the baby stops crying or that telephone conversation comes to an end, a push of the “Replay” button starts the playback at the exact point where it was interrupted earlier. The program that isn't exactly live anymore simply would come to an end a few minutes later. Since up to 12 movies could fit on the hard drive, some kind of organization would be necessary. An overview of what has been recorded is provided by a well-made on-screen file system.
