Infopop update 6.5.0 -> 6.5.1 for free!!!

Omdat Infopop (de maker van deze boardsoftware) licentiehouders keihard laat stikken door ze te laten betalen voor bug-fixes (het oplossen van fouten in hun eigen software), hebben wij besloten de update van versie 6.5.0 naar versie 6.5.1 (waarin alleen de fouten/bugs opgelost zijn en geen extra functionaliteit bied) gratis aan te bieden.

Je hebt hiervoor een originele 6.5.0 versie nodig. Wij bieden geen software aan, maar alleen een patch die van 6.5.0 een 6.5.1 maakt zodat je van alle bugs verlost bent zonder schandalig veel geld te betalen voor een jaar extra Member Access terwijl dit product niet meer door infopop onderhouden wordt.

Zie bijlage voor patch en instructies. Maak altijd eerst een bakcup van software en database!

 

We where running version 6.5.0 which is full of bugs. Infopop fixed these bugs in version 6.5.1 (6.5.1 is bugfixes only, NO NEW FEATURES!) but does not provide these bugfixes to their Ubbthreads license holders for free as they morally and legally should.

In stead of that they decided to ask a lot of money for 1 years member access for a product that is completely end of line. You would be paying for thin air and just 1 bug fix version, which should be for free in the first place!

You will understand we are not paying anymore money for member access since infopop announced they would not update Ubbthreads anymore after 6.5.1 and our member access expired before they released this bugfix version.

We are not interested in a new infopop product eigther since we do not want to go true another year of runnig poorly tested "beta" software like we did with Ubbthreads in the past. We have had loads of problems with Ubbtreads in the past, because we believed a member area release would be bug free. Well, most of the time they where not. Not a big problem if you have like 10 visitors a day, but If you have like 20.000 active members and at least 400-500 of them online at the same time (like we do in the evenings) it does form a huge problem.

We contacted Infopop about this matter, but they leave us standing in the cold. They won't provide bufixes for 6.5.0 and you just have to pay 1 years member access for a stupid little (6.5.1) bug fix version. That is totally crazy and unlawfull! International laws state a software company is obligated to provide bug fixes to license holders for free! Not to speak of any moral obligations.

That is why we decided to provide you with a patch that will safely update your original 6.5.0 version to the bug fixed 6.5.1 version completely FREE!!!

You do need an original licensed 6.5.0 version. We are not providing you with illegal software, just a way to get your 6.5 working without all the "embedded" bugs.

For safety reasons, please do backup your database and software before using this patch!

Fixed a bug where when searching for a username, the username wasn't cached when displaying the searchterms on search result pages.

Fixed a FAQ bug that was showing an email contact link even if a contact url was specified in the control panel.

Fixed a text bug where when editing a post and file attachments were turned off where it would still say add or edit an attachment.

Fixed a bug with the control panel that would remove backslashes from config file settings when performing various actions.

Fixed a bug where the Quote link was not being closed properly.

Fixed a bug where passwords were not able to be sent to the user via the CP properly.

Fixed a bug where search keywords being a part of a URL would sometimes change the case of the link so it wouldn't work properly.

Replaced a missing check to make sure forum keywords are alphanumeric only.

Fixed a bug with the private message counter that could potentially display a negative amount of private messages.

Zo bont maakt zelfs microsoft het niet. Het is toch te gek dat je moet betalen voor een product wat nog wel erg veel bugs heeft en waar je dan ook nog moet betalen om deze bugs verholpen te krijgen. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpdown.gif" alt="" />

Ik neem aan dat jullie verder toch erg tevreden over de software zijn, het ziet er tenslotte erg goed uit allemaal op sat4all, maar anders zou je bijna gaan overwegne om op andere software over te stappen.

Ik denk dat het erg veel werk is, maar zolang ze niet te veel klanten verliezen zullen ze vast doorgaan met dit soort praktijken. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpdown.gif" alt="" />

 

Hopelijk gaan ze niet moeilijk doen, als ze erachter komen dat je hier de patch gratis kunt ophalen.

Tsja was te verwachten natuurlijk, alhoewel het toch wel bijzonder is dat ze het in de gaten hebben. Ik kan me haast niet voorstellen dat een bedrijf met veel klanten dat allemaal gaat achterhalen.

Een stukje spyware en je houd al je klanten in de gaten. Ook is er een brief wisseling geweest. Dus de slapende honden zijn wakker geworden. Toch is dit erger dan wat UPC Microschoft en A. Rectaal gezamelijk doen, want er is van een goed product geen sprake in dit geval.

Ze verwijzen naar sectie 3 van hun voorwaarden,

hier wordt hoofdzakeleijk over verspreiding aan derden gesproken.

Terwijl in de eerste posting toch duidelijk staat dat je versie 6.5.0

moet bezitten.

De software wordt dus aan tweeden ter beschikking gesteld.

 

Indien je software aankoopt, ben je licencie houder.

Indien de maker licencies intrekt omdat je volgens hem

niet aan de voorwaarden voldoet (inbreuk maakt op), moet

de maker zich ook aan de voorwaarden houden.

oa aangepaste voorwaarden sinds 8 april 2005

(behoort een link te geven naar de voorwaarden toen sat4all

de software kocht of nog ondersteunde).

Hij geeft in de disclaimer (16) aan dat er fouten etc. in de software kunnen

zitten, maar vermeldt niet dat je voor de bugfixes moet betalen.

Daar je deze versie legaal gekocht had, kon je voor een

gereduceerd tarief windows 98 aankopen.

Als je dat niet deed, (in dit geval Member Area.) kreeg je wel

patches (verbeteringen) van win95.

 

Microsoft, zegt in 2001 geen verbeteringen (patches) meer uit

te brengen voor win95. Als de laatste patch niet voor iedereen

beschikbaar is, ben je dan strafbaar als je deze deelt?

 

Nee, want zij hebben kenbaar gemaakt deze niet meer te ondersteunen,

daardoor kun je hun dus niet schaden.

 

Infopop heeft aangekondigd geen nieuwe versie (win98) meer te maken

moet iemand dan toch het geld betalen voor win98 als er alleen nog maar

verbeteringen van 95 komen.
