Euro1080 will transmit simultaneously in MPEG4 format from June 1st 2005 onwards both HD1 and HD2. Euro1080 guarantees MPEG2 transmission on ASTRA until at least JANUARY 1st 2008, this is at least 3 more years from now. With this choice, Euro1080 commits itself in playing a pioneering and even market determining role in the evolution of HDTV throughout Europe. The existing CA-Card is of course compatible with this new transmission technology.

 

MPEG-4 is the only open standard that can address the opportunities enabled by the digital revolution: easily deploy multimedia content for any and all platforms.

MPEG-4 dramatically advances audio and video compression, needing lesser bandwidth than before, and thus enabling the distribution of content and services from low bandwidths to high-definition quality across broadcast, broadband, wireless and packaged media. It provides a standardized framework for many other forms of media –including text, pictures, animation, 2D and 3D objects– which can be presented in interactive and personalized media experiences.
