CBS to launch new UK channels 01-10-09

CBS Studios International will launch a "bouquet" of new channels in the UK next month as part of a joint venture with Chellomedia.

The November 16 arrival of CBS Action, CBS Reality and CBS Drama on UK digital television will mark the first time that a branded CBS channel has ventured outside the US, reports Broadcast Now.

For the launch, Chellomedia has freed up six of its existing channels on Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat via its Chello Zone international broadcasting arm.

 

Zone Reality and its +1 channel will change to CBS Reality and CBS Reality +1, Zone Romantica will become CBS Drama and Zone Thriller will change to CBS Action. The deal also includes Zone Horror and its +1 channel, but they will remain unchanged for the moment.

Programming on the channels will derive from the 70,000-plus hours of content in the CBS archives, including thriller Jag and remastered episodes of Star Trek coming to CBS Action, Dr. Phil and Judge Judy to show on CBS Reality and Dynasty to broadcast on CBS Drama. Chellomedia also plans to source additional third-party content to fill the channel's schedules.

Commenting on the forthcoming launch, CBS Studios International president Armando Nunez indicated that the focus is now on getting the UK launch right, before considering any futher expansion.

"Chello has a bouquet of channels that are doing well but have never really had access to higher-tier content," said Nunez. "We have the content, but are not really in the international channels business. It's a natural fit."

CBS executive vice president Reed Manville, who will lead the UK project, revealed that the channels are aimed at people aged 35 and over who enjoy watching library programmes.

"There's latent awareness of the CBS brand, and that it stands for quality US entertainment, but people associate it with things such as DVDs, motion pictures and news," he said. "Our job is to build that out."

CBS Studios International zal een "boeket" van nieuwe kanalen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk volgende maand als onderdeel van een joint venture met Chellomedia.

De komst van 16 november CBS Actie, CBS Reality en CBS Drama op de Britse digitale televisie zal de eerste keer dat een branded kanaal CBS heeft gewaagd buiten de VS merk, meldt Broadcast Now. Voor de lancering heeft Chellomedia maximaal zes van de bestaande kanalen op Sky, Virgin Media en Freesat via haar Chello Zone internationale omroep arm vrijgelaten.

 

Zone Reality en haar +1 kanaal verandert in CBS Reality en CBS Reality +1, zal Zone Romantica geworden CBS Drama en Zone Thriller verandert in CBS actie. De deal omvat ook Zone Horror en haar +1 kanaal, maar ze zullen onveranderd blijven voor het moment.

De programmering op de zenders zullen voortvloeien uit de 70.000-plus uren van inhoud in de CBS-archieven, inclusief thriller Jag en geremasterde afleveringen van Star Trek CBS komt naar actie, Dr Phil en Judge Judy om te laten zien op CBS Reality en Dynasty uit te zenden op CBS Drama. Chellomedia is ook van plan om extra bron inhoud van derden om schema's van het kanaal te vullen.

CBS Studios International president Armando Nunez heeft aangegeven dat de focus nu op het verkrijgen van de Britse lancering recht, alvorens eventuele verdere expansie "Chello heeft een boeket van kanalen die het goed doen, maar nog nooit echt had toegang tot hoger-tier inhoud," aldus Nunez. "We hebben de inhoud, maar zijn niet echt in de internationale kanalen bedrijf. Het is een natuurlijke pasvorm."

CBS Executive Vice President Reed Manville, die zal leiden het VK-project, bleek dat de kanalen zijn gericht op mensen van 35 jaar en ouder die genieten van het kijken bibliotheek's.

"Er is latente bekendheid van het CBS merk, en dat staat voor kwaliteit Amerikaanse entertainment, maar mensen associëren met dingen zoals dvd's, films en nieuws, 'zei hij. "Our job is to build that out." "Onze taak is om dat uit te bouwen.

Hé, een satellietkijker (en zendamateur) die de engelse taal niet machtig is , dat is gek!

En het is volgens mij rebranding van bestaande kanalen.

De titel van het topic klopt niet helemaal. Er staat nergens dat het om 16 zenders gaat... Het start op 16 november, daar komt de 16 waarschijlijk vandaan.

Je hebt gelijk het moet 16 november 2009 ipv 16 nieuwe kanalen,maar ik ben er aardig in de buurt,verder ben ik trots om een Nederlander te zijn die in een ander land in europa woont.
